SANS 164-4 | |||
SANS 164-4 covers a 16A - 250V dedicated system, based on SANS 164-1. The plugs and matching socket are meant for special local networks. The first version of the standard, that is unique to South Africa, was published in 2006.
10 | Socket and plug, characterized by an earth slot and pin that have a flat portion. Three variants exist. They differ with respect to the rotational position of the flat portion, i.e. 0º (red), +53º (blue) and -53º (black). Color coding is an integral requirement of the standard. |
---|---|
11, 12 | The red variant is among others used for electronic equipment. Red sockets are connected to a safe, local network, independent of standard power supply. Red sockets can also be used when a clean earth wiring system is necessary. {PC} |
13, 14 | The blue variant is usually connected to a local network that offers an uninterrupted power supply. {BJ} Note that also available are blue sockets with a fully round earth pin hole (accessible for SANS 164-1 plugs). |
15, 16 | Black sockets and plugs are connected to an isolated power supply with clean system earth, and/or circuit that is running through a 1:1 isolating transformer. {BJ} |
