Host Controlled Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery charger platform released for rapid implementation into custom battery charger applications

Continuing to pursue its commitment to quality products and service, GlobTek, a world-class leader in the design and manufacture of power supplies and rechargeable energy systems has released to production and finalized it’s advanced host controlled charger design platform. This finalized design can be rapidly adapted to a wide range of customer specific charging requirements as well as implemented into standard, off the shelf, and custom or bespoke mechanical packages including custom housings and enclosures.

The latest host controlled Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) charger platform is designed to charge up to 4A of charging current for up to 4 cells in series. Standard designs for Lithium Ion Cells are available for 3.7v, 7.4v, 11.1v, 14.8v charge voltages. Standard designs for Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) cells is available for 3.2v, 6.4v, 9.6v, 12.8v, and 16v charge voltage. Other chemistries may be facilitated with this charger within a charge voltage range of 3-16v. While the charger can provide up to 4A charging the actual charging rate is based on what the battery circuitry signals the charger to charge. Full charge voltage can be set on-the-fly depending on the temperature of the battery pack, thus optimizing the life of the battery pack. Charger is able to adjust its charging rate to avoid overloading the power supply when the system draw more power that the power supply can deliver.

The platform design includes Temperature protection, Over charger protection , Back-up timer for charge termination, and SMBus communication protocol as standard. Other features and communication protocols such as I2C may be implemented per customer requirements.

The Micro controller/MCU controlled charger is compliant with international regulatory standards for Medical equipment, ITE equipment, household use equipment, Class 2 equipment including but not limited to IEC60601-1 2nd and 3rd edition, UL ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 (3rd Edition), UL60601-1 (2nd edition), CAN/CSA-C22.2 No.60601-1, IEC60950-1, UL 60950-1, EN60335-1 and UL1310.

Customized or bespoke PCB Mounted, external enclosure shapes and colors, housing designs, output cord types and lengths, as well as customized packaging available upon request.

GlobTek’s model GT-2S5024D-R has been specifically designed for us and is Suitable for use in environmental air space in accordance with Section 300.22.C of the National Electrical Code, and Sections 2-128, 12-010(3) and 12-100 of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1, C22.1.

A plenum is considered to be an area that has not specifically been fabricated for air handling purposes, such as a duct, but does in fact handle or convey environmental air. The most common type of plenum is the area above a suspended grid-type ceiling when designed so that return air is pulled through the above-ceiling space and recirculated into the supply air system.
